Hey Gloucestershire! Let’s talk about our roads. We’ve all been there, driving along, enjoying the view, and then – thud! Another pothole. It’s no secret that our county’s roads have seen better days, and it seems like these pesky potholes are popping up faster than we can fill them.
So, what’s being done about it? Well, our council’s been busy. They’ve got a plan to pour a whopping £100m into fixing our roads1. That’s a lot of tarmac! And it’s not just talk; they’ve already started with a summer full of resurfacing2. Plus, they’ve got this nifty new machine that’s patched up over 1,000 potholes2. Not too shabby, right?
But here’s the rub – it’s tough to get compensation if your car gets a pothole pummeling. Out of 549 claims last year, only six got paid1. That’s got some folks wondering if we’re playing ‘find the needle in the haystack’ with our claims.

The council’s also rolled out an app called Fix My Street, hoping to make it easier for us to report problems1. It’s a step in the right direction, but we’re yet to see if it’ll make a dent in the number of complaints filling up our councillors’ inboxes.
In the end, it’s all about teamwork. The council’s doing their bit, and we can help by reporting those road craters. Together, we’re on the road to making our journeys smoother and safer. So, let’s keep our eyes peeled, report those potholes, and hopefully, we’ll see fewer of them soon!
