Delays & Diversions
Construction activity remains the dominant factor on this route.
• Birdlip (Northbound): Delays of around 10 minutes reported between Birdlip and the A419/A436 junction. Lane restrictions are active as part of the long-term layout changes.
• A48 / Highnam / Over Roundabout: Slow-moving traffic noted on approaches west of Gloucester, though lighter than a typical term-time Tuesday.
⚠️ OVERNIGHT CLOSURE WARNING
The A417 will be fully closed tonight (21:00 – 06:00) between the A46 (Brockworth) and the Air Balloon Roundabout.
Advice: Late-night traffic should follow the official A46 / A40 diversion route.

📍 Sinope Street – Signing & Lining Works
⛔ CONFIRMED CLOSURE (09:30 – 15:30)
Access restrictions will be in place for daytime highway works.
Impact: Local access only. Drivers moving between the Docks / Hospital / city centre areas should plan alternative routes.
🚗 M5 MOTORWAY
Slimbridge Area (Between J13 – J14):
⚠️ Hard Shoulder CLOSED in both directions until approx. 16:00
Reason: Drainage and barrier maintenance.
Traffic continues to flow, but the absence of a refuge lane means any breakdowns may cause sudden delays.
