Addressing Local Needs

The idea for the pantry arose from a heartfelt concern for the well-being of the community. Witnessing firsthand the challenges faced by families unable to put food on the table, Ms. Ranford took action. With the support of Quedgeley Town Council and generous donations totalling £6,000 since January, the shelves at Kingsway Sports Pavilion are now stocked with essential provisions.

A Helping Hand for Families

For a nominal fee of £3 per week, residents can access the pantry and choose up to 10 items to support their households. From pantry staples like tea and coffee to household essentials like washing-up liquid and even pet food, the pantry ensures that no family goes without basic necessities.

Community Support in Action

The initiative has garnered widespread support from local charities, groups, and individuals eager to lend a helping hand. Donations can be made at various locations in Quedgeley and Tuffley, including St James\’ Church, Quedgeley Library, Tuffley Library, and the Scout Hut. Additionally, local schools have pledged to organize three food drives annually to bolster the pantry\’s resources.

A Beacon of Hope

Andrew James, representing the Severn Vale Rotary Club, emphasized the pressing need for initiatives like the Quedgeley Community Pantry in light of the ongoing economic challenges. \”People are finding it very difficult to get the money to survive,\” he noted, highlighting the importance of community support during tough times.

Accessible and Welcoming

The Quedgeley Community Pantry will be open twice a week, on Wednesdays from 14:00 to 18:00 and Sundays from 10:00 to 14:00, ensuring accessibility for residents facing diverse schedules.

Amidst economic uncertainties and financial hardships, the Quedgeley Community Pantry stands as a beacon of hope, embodying the spirit of compassion and solidarity within the community.
