Gloucestershire is coming off a tough weekend with back-to-back home losses to Hampshire and Sussex. This rocky start has left Mark Alleyne’s team with just two points from four matches, placing them seventh in the standings. But don’t count them out yet – a win on Friday could propel them back into the top half.
On the other hand, Surrey is enjoying a solid run, sitting comfortably in third place in the South Group with six points from three wins. Under the leadership of Ollie Pope, they’ve triumphed over Somerset, Glamorgan, and Hampshire, only faltering once against Sussex. A victory on Friday could see Surrey claim the top spot in the table.
Mark Alleyne is sticking with an unchanged squad for this critical encounter. However, Gloucestershire will miss spinner Tom Smith due to a back injury, Zafar Gohar with a hamstring issue, and Tom Price who remains out with a back problem.
Surrey’s last match in the Vitality Blast was a tough 36-run defeat to Sussex Sharks. Despite a valiant effort with Ollie Pope shining with an unbeaten 99 and Sam Curran taking three wickets, they fell short, ending at 177/7 in response to Sussex’s 213/7.
The last T20 face-off between these two teams was a nail-biter. At the Seat Unique Stadium in Bristol, Gloucestershire edged out Surrey by two wickets. Matt Taylor and David Payne were the heroes with three wickets each, sealing the win with just five balls to spare.
