Good morning Gloucestershire 👋
It’s midway through Half-Term, so the usual “school run” pressure is reduced — but local works + tighter A417 lanes + damp conditions can still cause delays, especially late morning into early afternoon.

Here’s your daily briefing 👇

UPDATES WILL APPEAR AT THE TOP.

🚨 LIVE UPDATE – 16:30

🔴 A417 CLOSED – Maisemore

Drivers are being warned to avoid the A417 at Maisemore as flood water has forced a closure.

• The route is currently not passable
• Rising water levels remain a concern near the River Severn
• Local diversions are likely in operation

Even if water appears shallow, closures are in place for safety and vehicles should not attempt to pass through flood water.

⚠️ Gloucester City Traffic

Motorists have also reported disruption around Tredworth Road, with closures affecting nearby junctions. Expect minor delays within the city and allow extra time for cross-city journeys.

🌧 Conditions Reminder

With damp roads and standing water in places, drivers should remain cautious this evening, particularly on:

• Rural & low-lying routes
• Faster roads where spray reduces visibility

✅ Planning to head out later?

Check road conditions before travelling and allow extra time where diversions are active.

10.20am – updated

🚧Gloucester city routes (watch-outs today)

Sinope Street (The Docks area)
There are reports of daytime restrictions/works (roughly mid-morning to mid-afternoon) in the Docks area this week. If you’re heading for Gloucester Quays / docks-side appointments, build in a little extra time and be ready to divert via surrounding streets.

London Road / Black Dog Way
Ongoing improvements here continue to catch drivers out — and the right turn from London Road onto Black Dog Way is permanently banned, so you’ll need to use the roundabout/alternative access.

🛣 A417 “Missing Link” corridor
Traffic generally flows, but the narrow lanes and layout around Birdlip / Air Balloon naturally reduce speeds.

If you’re travelling later this evening, there are reports that overnight works/closures may be in place again — worth checking before you set off if your journey crosses Brockworth ↔ Air Balloon.

🚗 M5 + main routes
With Half-Term trips in play, expect steadier flows into Cheltenham & Gloucester from late morning (around 11am onwards) as families head out.

Also keep an eye out for maintenance activity — even when traffic is light, a single incident can slow things quickly if lanes are restricted.

☁️ Weather & driving conditions
Grey, damp February conditions today: surface spray on faster roads and greasy patches on rural lanes. Leave a bigger gap, especially on the A40/M5.
